Doom (2016) is the fourth installment in one of the most iconic FPS franchises in gaming history, originally created by id Software in 1993. The general plot outline, which has remained a constant throughout the series, sees players once again assuming the role of a lone marine (known as the Doom Marine), who is sent to a UAC (Union Aerospace Corporation) military research facility on Mars. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that during their experiments, the scientists inadvertently opened a portal, allowing hordes of terrifying monsters to invade the base. The protagonist must battle through various areas on Mars before ultimately descending into Hell itself to confront the most powerful demons.

Unlike the previous installment, which was infused with horror elements, Doom (2016) on PC, PS4, and other platforms focuses primarily on fast-paced, bloody action, bringing the gameplay closer to the spirit of the first two games in the series. The core of the gameplay revolves around the spectacular elimination of waves of enemies using a sizeable arsenal of weapons, many of which will be familiar to long-time fans of the series. These include iconic weapons like the Chainsaw, the Super Shotgun, the Plasma Rifle, and the massive BFG 9000.
