Cuphead is a 2D action game with a distinctive art style inspired by vintage cartoons, and it's the debut project from StudioMDHR. In the game, players assume the role of Cuphead, a character with a penchant for gambling, who loses his soul in a game with the devil. The game follows two reckless brothers, Cuphead and Mugman, who resemble a teacup and mug, respectively. They live with their elder caretaker on the Inkwell Isles. Ignoring warnings, they visit the devil's casino one evening and indulge in a game of dice. After a series of wins, the casino owner, the devil, offers them a tempting deal: one more win will earn them all the casino's gold, but a loss means surrendering their souls.

Inevitably, the brothers lose. However, the devil offers them a second chance: if they collect the souls of his other debtors by midnight the next day, he will forgive their debt. Cuphead and Mugman set off on a frantic journey across the Inkwell Isles to retrieve the souls of the devil's previous victims, striving to save themselves from a dire fate.
